On Tuesday, July 26, 2022, the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) voted to set the tentative millage rates for fiscal year 2022/2023.

Citrus County Board of County Commissioners Approves Preliminary 2022-23 Budget

This is an increase of 0.4835 mills over the current fiscal year millage of 7.7623. The increases are intended to support emergency medical services (EMS), residential road resurfacing, and enhanced mental health services, as requested by citizens. Additionally, Sheriff Mike Prendergast requested and received salary increases for sworn law enforcement and 911 communications staff.

This millage rate will be reflected on the Property Appraiser’s Truth in Millage (TRIM) notice, which informs taxpayers which governmental entity is responsible for the taxes levied and the amount of tax liability taxpayers owe to each taxing authority. Citrus County property owners should expect to receive these TRIM notices in mid-August.

The Citrus County Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has prepared examples of taxes on various assessed property values for reference (see attached graphic). Owners of homesteaded residential property with a value of $140,000, for instance, will see a $67 dollar increase annually under the new millage, while property valued at $500,000 will see an increase of $242. Taxes on commercial property valued at $250,000 will increase by $120 a year.
