With less than a month from the beginning of Hurricane Season, the City of Brooksville participates in the Hernando County Emergency Operations mock hurricane exercise.

City of Brooksville Participates in Mock Hurricane Exercise

All week long City officials, staff and first responders will be going through real life scenarios to be prepared in case a storm hits the Adventure Coast. Department heads will work with designated staff on what actions would be taken in the first 24/48 and 72 hours of the storm event to assure City preparation efforts.

“With Hurricane Preparedness Week being observed May 9-15, 2021, this is the ideal time for the City staff to prepare and assess their skills to quickly and efficiently respond to a storm event,” stated City of Brooksville Fire Chief, Ron Snowberger. “After a disaster, City services are tested to the limit, it’s these staff members that keep the City operations going during the most stressful times.”

The 2021 hurricane season kicks-off June 1 and runs through November 30; forecasters are calling for an above average season. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the average hurricane season includes 14 named storms and 7 hurricanes. Mock exercises like this will help prepare the City so they can quickly respond to the needs of the citizens.

The City encourages everyone to prepare for Hurricane Season. Being prepared means having enough food, water and other supplies to last for several days. A basic disaster supply kit is available at https://www.ready.gov/kit .
