Not much has changed from last week except the tides. Look for some great mangrove snapper fishing on the nearshore rocks in 10 to 12 feet of water. High-profile rocks nearshore will hold some good fish but this past week some of my best mangos have come from areas I’ve redfished at.

Rocky points on high tides with jumping mullet will have redfish but will also have some keeper snappers. To see if any are there toss a live shrimp on a 2/0 Owner SSW bait hook and look for them close to the boat. Most of the time you can watch them eat the bait before you set the hook. The fish you catch will not be monsters but on light tackle, a 12 to 14-inch mango snapper will be a fun fight.

One of the best ways to cook them is to scale and head them then score them twice on each side. Soak them in soy sauce then fry the fish in oil. After they cool pull the meat and dip it in a ginger sauce.

The scalloping is holding its own. As we get into August the crowds will thin and the scallops will be bigger. 

High incoming tide this weekend will be early morning.
