On Saturday, June 19, 2021, Citrus County Animal Services (CCAS) hosted a book signing for local author and veterinarian, Dr. K.C. Nayfield.

His new book, “Some of my Best Patients Were Animals: Memoirs of a Florida Veterinarian,” tells the story of Dr. K.C. Nayfield’s career in veterinary medicine. During his over forty years of practice, he treated a wide variety of animals, including wildlife, which resulted in some interesting tales. Although his practice was in Florida, he made several good will medical and surgical trips to the Bahamas and Cuba.

As a result of this book signing, Dr. Nayfield was able to raise a total of $1,500 to be put towards a new CCAS animal shelter. The funds were donated directly to the Citrus County Foundation for Animal Protection (CCFAP), whose mission is to help animals stay physically and mentally healthy during their stay at CCAS and to help reduce the length of their stay. “We partner very well with Colleen Yarbrough and her staff to accomplish those goals,” said CCFAP President Wanda Moak. “When the opportunity for a new animal shelter arose, we heard that some citizens only wanted to or, in cases of some endowment or trust accounts, could only donate to a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. CCFAP stepped forward to be the non-profit organization to fill that need.”

The event was so well-attended that another book signing has been scheduled for Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 10:00am. This event will also be held at CCAS, located at 4030 S Airport Rd, Inverness, FL.

Citrus County Animal Services would like to thank Dr. Nayfield for his generous donation and CCFAP for their partnership. For more information about CCAS, please call (352) 746-8400. To learn more about CCFAP, visit www.CCFAP.net.
