Hernando Audubon Meeting: All About Florida Manatees with speaker Brittany Hall-Scharf. Brittany will speak about the life history of these salt-water mammals found off Florida’s coasts. She will discuss the several threats to this species that have reduced the population in recent years. Brittany works as Hernando County’s Florida Sea Grant Agent with the UF/IFAS Extension Office. The meeting will be held on Thursday, October 27, at 7 p.m. at Brooksville Woman’s Club, 131 S. Main Street, Brooksville. Masks and social distancing are required. Hernando Audubon Beginners Class on Photographing Birds with a DSLR Camera, with instructor Alice Mary Herden.The focus of this photography class is simply to know the basic functions of a DSLR camera. There are times when the technical side gets too overwhelming, and many people lose the real purpose of investing in a camera. This class will simplify terms in order for you to enjoy photographing nature and wildlife in its natural settings. Saturday, October 1 at 8 a.m. at Ahhochee Hill Sanctuary, 24268 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville. Hernando Audubon Birding Trip to Perry Oldenburg, Saturday, October 8: At 8 a.m. meet in the parking lot at 13489 Government Road, Brooksville. From US-41 turn east on Deer Run Road. At the intersection with Government Road, go straight in the right lane. Along the 1.5 mile trail through sandhill and hardwood hammock and a powerline right-of-way, expect to see American Kestrel, Loggerhead Shrike, hawks, woodpeckers, other woodland bird species and fall butterflies. Hernando Audubon Birding Trip to Weekiwachee Preserve, Saturday, October 22. At 8 a.m. meet at the entrance gate at 2345 Osowaw Blvd., Spring Hill. We’ll walk two miles on trails to look for songbirds, and drive to the end of the road to look for water birds. Contact Bev: bevalhansen@gmail.com or 352-686-0460.

Hernando Audubon Beginning Birding: Friday, October 28, at 8 a.m. at Chinsegut Conservation Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville. Learn to identify birds at feeders and during a short walk.
