F1RST, Florida’s Forensics Institute for Research Security & Tactics in partnership with Saint Leo University’s Department of Public Safety Administration and its criminal justice program, will present the next session in its Leadership Seminar Series.

Saint Leo University, F1RST to Host Leadership Development Webinar Offering Perspectives on Moral, Ethical, Legal Decision Making

The session, Senior Leader Perspectives on Moral, Ethical, and Legal Decision Making (When It May Not be a Popular Idea) will be presented 1-3 p.m., Wednesday, June 9, via Zoom.

This free course will provide organizational leaders (of all levels) with advanced concepts and philosophies for sound leadership principles and decision making. Through the continuous exposure to senior leaders and experts in various professional fields of work, the Leadership Seminar Series is designed to expand the capabilities and performance of leaders in government and the commercial workforce. 

The panel discussion will look not only at how to make moral, legal, and ethical decisions, but also how to maintain your courage during difficult decisions.

Course instructors include:

Retired Lieutenant General Ken Tovo is a recognized leader in special operations, strategic planning, and leadership. He is the president of DOL Enterprises Inc., a consulting firm providing services primarily in the defense and technology sectors.

Over the course of his 35-year career, much of it as a Green Beret, Tovo developed and led high performing organizations at varying levels, from a 12-man Special Forces ‘A-team’ to the 34,000-strong Army Special Operations Command.

His operational assignments include the first Gulf War; refugee relief operations in Turkey and Northern Iraq; noncombatant evacuation operations in Sierra Leone; peacekeeping operations in Bosnia on two occasions; five tours in Iraq; and one tour in Afghanistan. He has significant experience in developing organizational culture, managing change and incorporating new ideas and technology. and strategic planning and resourcing.

Tovo was a distinguished graduate from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering. He holds a master’s degree in advanced military studies from the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College and a master’s in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College. Tovo received the Bristol Military History Writing Award for his War College thesis.

Retired Major General Mark O’Neil, founder of the O’Neil Network, created to help organizations assess potential, identify, and develop leaders, and improve organizational effectiveness. Combat-proven and decorated, O’Neil served his country for more than 33 years, with demonstrated expertise at developing teams and building enduring relationships.

He is a former commander of Special Operations units who assessed, selected, trained, and led the most elite organization in the world, solving our nation’s most complex and dangerous problems. O’Neil’s military awards and decorations include two Distinguished Service Medals; the Defense Cooperation Award from the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force; a Defense Superior Service Medal; four Legion of Merit awards; eight Bronze Star medals (one Valor device); and multiple service medals and commendations as well as the Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge, Combat Action Badge, and the Military Free Fall Badge.

His educational degrees include a Bachelor of Science in physical education from Norwich University (where he was elected to the Athletic Hall of Fame), Master of Military Arts and Science from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS, and served in a Fellowship at the Senior Service College, Central Intelligence Agency, Washington, DC.

Retired Brigadier General David Brigham leads the Africa Center’s African Military Education Program (AMEP), which helps its partner nations develop, improve, and expand their Professional Military Education institutions. AMEP is conducting 32 projects in 17 sub-Saharan African countries. Brigham is a former U.S. Army officer and served as a Special Forces and Foreign Area officer in Europe, Russia, and Central and South Asia.

Brigham is a 1988 graduate of Norwich University (BS), a 2004 graduate of the Naval War College (MS), a Harvard National Security fellow, an MIT Seminar XXI fellow, and a fellow at the Center for Strategic Studies for International Studies (CSIS).
