Saint Leo University Offering Co-ed Robotics Summer Camps

Saint Leo University’s popular robotics summer camps will return this year with
two week long sessions, July 18 – 22 and July 25 – 29.
Hosted by Saint Leo’s new School of Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Data
Science (CARDS), this camp will take place 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at University Campus, 33701 State
Road 52, St. Leo, FL 33574.
The Saint Leo University Robotics coed camp is designed for middle school students (ages 11 –
15) who are interested in learning about robotics and programming. The campers, working in
pairs, will use LEGO® Education SPIKE Prime set, one of the newest robotics kits created by
LEGO®. This is an exciting opportunity for students to engage in learning about how robots
work and how to code, said Dr. Monika Kiss, interim chair of the Mathematics Department in the
School of CARDS.
“Students do not need to have a background in building robots or coding,” Kiss said, “they just
need to be interested and ready to learn. Robotics is an intersection of all STEM [science,
technology, engineering, and math] fields and is a wonderful opportunity to spike interest in
young minds.”
Those attending the camp will be provided healthy snacks as well as lunch at the Saint Leo
University Dining Hall. The cost to attend is $250 per child.
