By Florida's Original NatureCoaster™ Posted on June 26, 2018

The Alzheimer’s Family Organization (AFO) will host a free Caregiver Learning Day from 10 a,m. to 2 p.m. on July 20, 2018 at the Citrus Memorial Hospital Historic School House, 502 West Highland Boulevard, in Inverness.  A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

The program will include a report about services available from the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office by Senior Services Coordinator Lee Alexander, information about the services provided by Disability Rights Florida by DRF Director Amanda Haystek, and a workshop about how to interpret the behaviors of individuals with dementia for better care and communication by AFO President Debbie Selsavage.

Providers supporting the free workshop will include Grand Living at Citrus Hills, Davis Family Hearing, Terlep Chiropractic, and Senior Helpers, which will have on hand its free Virtual Dementia Tour.  The Virtual Dementia Tour is a science-based simulation of what individuals living with dementia experience so that caregivers can better understand the physical and cognitive deficits their loved ones are dealing with.

AFO Caregiver Learning Days follow a welcoming and interactive format where attendees are encouraged to ask questions and discuss their concerns about Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia.  While the Learning Day is free, reservations are requested for planning purposes.  To register to attend, or for more information please call 352-616-0170.
