The workshop, to be conducted by Certified Dementia Practitioner, Consultant, and Trainer Debbie Selsavage, will define Alzheimer’s and dementia, explain how dementia affects individuals both physically and mentally, discuss ways to interpret dementia behaviors for better communication and results, and show how compassion and the proper use of voice, approach, and appropriate touch can result in more effective and less stressful caregiving.

While the workshop is free and open to the public, business owners who attend can receive a Dementia Friendly Business certification for an optional fee of $20.  Over the last three years, more than 5,000 family caregivers in west central Florida have experienced this popular workshop, and more than 50 businesses and churches have been certified Dementia Friendly.
