Native Plant Walk Through Goethe State Park

May 11 @ 8:30 am - 12:00 pm

Free

Explore the natural beauty of Goethe State Forest with an expert guide!

Search for terrestrial orchids, flowering milkworts and other species native to our local wetlands and flatwoods with Biologist & Educator Steve Farnsworth. Steve will take us through a 2.5 mile guided walk on old logging roads through the wet pine flatwoods, wetlands, and somewhat drier mesic flatwoods of Goethe State Forest.

Learn more about our native plants, get inspiration for your home landscape, and have some fun along the way!

**What to Bring**
Water. Good Shoes. Lunch (optional).

Our walk is along a horse trail that may include sandy patches, muddy trails, and deer flies (as well as “evidence” left behind by horses), so please be sure to wear appropriate shoes. Restroom facilities are available at the trailhead but keep in mind the water is non-potable (not drinkable).

Bring lunch with you for afterwards if you’d like to soak in a bit more beauty at the shelter & picnic tables at the trailhead.

**How to Get There**
Our meeting place, Tidewater Trailhead is 15-20 minutes northwest of Dunnellon in Levy County.

Take SR 40/CR 336 west from Dunnellon & veer right when CR 336 splits from SR 40. Continue northwest on CR 336 until you enter the forest, then turn right on CR 337. Go a short distance north on CR 337 & turn right on Saddle Pen Road. Follow the signs for the Tidewater Trailhead (29.131166, -82.568614). There are road signs for the Goethe State Forest trailheads at the turn onto CR 337.
