The subject of the April 11, 2023 meeting is “Rare Flora of the Withlacoochee Forest”, presented by Colleen Werner. This presentation will highlight rare flora on the Withlacoochee State Forest with brief descriptions of management practices, research projects and rescue projects.
The Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society meets the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM at The Land O’ Lakes Heritage Park Community Center, 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd/US 41, Land O’ Lakes, 34639, between SR 52 and SR 54.
Colleen is Biological Scientist II with a B.S. in Environmental Botany from USF – 1998. She has been a biologist at the Withlacoochee State Forest for 22 years and has the lead role for management of rare flora, karst resources and cultural resources. Colleen also assists the WSF Ecology Unit with prescribed burns, invasive weed control and rare fauna management.
Meetings of the Chapter are free, and all interested parties are invited to attend and bring questions about their yard. There will be light refreshments. Telephone inquiries are taken by Molly at (813) 469-9597.
