FREE virtual classes on Florida-Friendly Landscaping

The Hernando County Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) program offers classes and workshops year-round to help residents learn how to save time, money and water when maintaining their lawns and gardens.

FREE virtual classes on Florida-Friendly Landscaping™

Residents are invited to participate in free, online learning through virtual, interactive classes for the month of September. These virtual classes will be presented by Florida-Friendly Landscaping Coordinator Lilly Browning.

The schedule of classes along with a short description of each is listed below. Residents can participate by following FFL on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/HernandoFFLProgram. A link to participate in the classes will be provided on the Facebook page. Videos will be available on Facebook after the class has been recorded.

Free Virtual Class: Lilly’s Favorite Fifty

Residents are invited to virtually attend “Lilly’s Favorite Fifty” on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 10 a.m. Learn the Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator’s favorite 50 plants to use in your Central Florida yard. Natives and other Florida-Friendly plants will be chosen for their beauty, resilience, availability and ability to bring life to your landscape.

Free Virtual Class: Recycling Raindrops

Residents are invited to view “Recycling Raindrops” virtually any time after 8 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2020. This video will be pre-recorded and can be enjoyed at any time to fit in any schedule! Learn ways to put the rain nature gives you to work in your yard. Rain gardens, rain barrels and more will be discussed. No rain barrels will be distributed for this class. This class does not substitute for the Rain Barrel Workshop.

Free Virtual Class: Shabby Chic Landscapes

Residents are invited to virtually attend “Shabby Chic Landscapes” on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 10 a.m. Join us for this free Zoom class where participants will learn how to have a Florida-Friendly, fun and attractive landscape without breaking the bank.

Free Virtual Class: Weeds or Wildflowers – An Introduction to Overlooked Pollinator Plants

Residents are invited to virtually attend “Weeds or Wildflowers – An Introduction to Overlooked Pollinator Plants” on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 10 a.m. A weed is a matter of opinion! In this class, native “weeds” that are marvelous pollinators and often don’t get the credit they deserve in our Florida-Friendly landscapes will be discussed.

Free Virtual Class: So You’re at the Nursery – How to Shop For Florida-Friendly Plants

Residents are invited to virtually attend “So You’re at the Nursery – How to Shop For Florida-Friendly Plants” on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 10 a.m. In this class, what to look for and what to avoid in a retail nursery will be discussed. Participants will learn about ways to save money and make wise choices shopping for their Central Florida yard.

Free Virtual Class: Fall in Florida? Bring on the Color!

Residents are invited to virtually attend “Fall in Florida? Bring on the Color!” on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 10 a.m. You can bring a touch of fall color to your Central Florida landscape by incorporating beautiful and colorful annuals, perennials and flowering shrubs and trees. Planting tips and care will also be discussed in this class.
