January 16, 2024 – In a heartwarming ceremony, Habitat for Humanity of East and Central Pasco County proudly dedicated a newly rehabbed home to Marissa Jones and her two children, Paisley, and Nehemiah. The event marked a significant milestone in their journey towards homeownership and independence.

Jones, who was previously living with her family and sharing a room, expressed her gratitude,
stating, “This home has given me and my children a place to call our own. It has also shown my
kids that you can achieve something if you keep working and focusing on the end result, which is
our house.”

The Habitat for Humanity Family Service Manager Jere Ferguson, reflected on the inspiring
journey of families like the Jones, saying, “Working with families, like Marissa’s, reminds me
why Habitat is necessary for our community. Watching her work on completing her sweat equity
while also working full-time and raising kids is truly inspiring.”

The future homeowner’s father, Bruce Sellars, gave the invocation.
The Quilt Guild of Pasco County makes a beautiful quilt for every Habitat family. The quilt was
presented by Roseanne Ritter on behalf of the Quilt Guild. Creating a keepsake for the families is
the work of many hands and is treasured by those who receive one.

The Lutz/Land O Lakes Chapter of the Women’s Club always presents several items to new
Habitat homeowners as housewarming gifts. The items presented represent the different areas of
concern of the club. The club members presented books for the family, a fire extinguisher, a first
aid kit, and a handmade wreath for their front door. All items intended to make a house a home.

The rehab of the home was made possible through a valuable partnership with Pasco County
Community Development. This collaboration exemplifies the commitment of both organizations
to providing affordable housing solutions and revitalizing communities.

Marcy Esbjerg, Director of Community Development, presented the key to Jones, congratulating
her on the dedication and hard work she put towards achieving homeownership. The ceremony
celebrated not only the completion of a home but also the empowerment of a family and the
positive impact on the community.

Habitat for Humanity remains dedicated to its mission of building strength, stability, and self-
reliance through shelter. The organization continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of
families in need, thanks to the support of partners like PCCD Community Development.
