With this week’s burst of cold air, expect the cooler water to bunch the trout back up. Again, rocky points and knee-deep rock flats will hold the fish. D.O.A. glow jerk baits and MirrOlure MirrOdines will get the bite.

The snook bite has been good on the incoming tide. They seem to be laying more away from the keys in sandy holes or deep pockets. I will fish my way in from about a hundred yards away from the intended spot so as not to “run” the snook over.

I expect any time for some mixed fish action to start out on the inshore rock piles. Trout, Spanish mackerel, flounder, sea bass and blue fish will feed on shrimp near the bottom and will sometimes create a mud. Soft plastic lures in dark colors will get the bite. Remember if you are lucky enough to come across one of these muds, fish the up-tide end of it to stay with the fish.

Triple tail have made an appearance on the stone crab trap buoys. The waters west of Crystal River seem to have more of them. When a triple tail is spotted, do a wide circle around it and set up a drift to let the boat quietly drift to within casting distance with a live shrimp.

High incoming tide will be early morning or late evening this weekend.
