This is a great week to have family for Thanksgiving and do some fun fishing on the Big Bend. Most of our spring fed rivers will have black drum, sheepshead, ladyfish, jacks and mangrove snappers. Using jig heads or knocker rigs with live shrimp near deep parts of the river channel are the best places to try.

Using a MirrOlure MirrOdine along docks and down trees is a good way to catch some snook. 

On the inshore flats I’ve been catching trout on a popping cork rig with a jig 18″ to 20″ under it. The bite is slow so give the cork two or three “pops” then let the jig fall under it. Most strikes happen at the end of the fall and are subtle, sometimes just laying the cork on its side.

If there is a big enough tide to cover the rocks look for jumping mullet to find the redfish. Live shrimp or cut pinfish is the best bait. 

 The grouper bite is best at 18 to 25 feet.

Incoming high tide will be in the afternoon this weekend.
