The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum’s temporary “Florida Pirates” exhibit opens on Saturday, May 6, 2023, and will be on display through Saturday, July 29.

Museum to Highlight Pirates, Privateers, & Spanish Florida

The exhibit contains examples and replicas of what Spanish coins and pirate treasure looked like, along with weaponry of the age and more.
On Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 7:00 pm, the museum will host their free monthly Coffee &
Conversation lecture in conjunction with the new exhibit. Dr. David Head will present, “Pirates,
Privateers, and the Fall of Spain’s Empire: How Spanish American Independence Brought Florida to the
United States.” Dr. Head is a published author and associate lecturer of history at the University of
Central Florida (UCF).
This Florida Talks program is a partnership between Florida Humanities and the Old Courthouse
Heritage Museum. Funding for this program was provided by Florida Humanities and sponsored in part
by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture, the Florida Council on Arts
and Culture, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
