Hernando Audubon Meeting: Swallowtails to Skippers: the Butterflies of Hernando County. Don Fraser will discuss how to identify various species and provide life histories about their preferred habitats and distribution. The meeting will be held on October 26 at 7 p.m. at Brooksville Woman’s Club, 131 S. Main St., Brooksville. For information, contact Bev: bevalhansen@gmail.com or 352-686-0460.

Hernando Audubon birding trip to Aripeka Sandhills Preserve, 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 7. Meet in the parking lot, which is half a mile west of U.S. 19 at 18000 Aripeka Road in Hudson (Pasco County). Over 200 species of birds have been reported to eBird. Along the two-mile woodland trail, we hope to see fall migrants as well as many resident songbirds. There is no drinking water or bathroom. McKethan Lake, 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 14. McKethan Lake is at 15185 North Broad Street, north of Brooksville. Meet at the parking lot that is across from the picnic area with restrooms and play structures. We will walk about 1.5 miles on a trail through the hardwood hammock and observe the lake, marsh, and wetland prairie. We expect to view a variety of birds including waterfowl, herons, egrets, songbirds, and raptors. There is a $2 per person park fee. The trip leader has made a reservation for our group with Forestry and will collect the $2 fee from participants and pay Forestry a lump sum. Please bring exact cash. Weekiwachee Preserve, 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 21. We will meet at the entrance gate one mile west of U. S. 19, at 2345 Osowaw Boulevard in Spring Hill. We will walk about two miles on trails to look for songbirds. For information, contact Gwen: gwenfraley@comcast.net or 206-659-2677.

Hernando Audubon Beginning Birding: 8 to 11 a,m. on Friday, September 29. Meet on the deck behind the building at Chinsegut Conservation Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville.
