Big Mac (ID: A007256) is the sweetest boy! This 4-year-old weighs about 55 pounds. He is so gentle and gives kisses. He loves to play with other dogs of all sizes and ages. He has safely met cats and seemed respectful of them. He walks well on a leash and takes treats softly. He did test positive for heartworms, and Pasco County Animal Services staff would be happy to discuss treatment options with you. Make an appointment today to meet Big Mac, and you're sure to fall in love!

Pasco Animal Services Awarded $7,500 for Vet Equipment

Pasco County Animal Services (PCAS) is the proud recipient of a $7,500 grant from Banfield Foundation to pay for lifesaving medical equipment that will help our furry friends in their time of need.

“Our medical team’s expertise, skill and compassion allows us to maintain a save rate of more than 90%,” said PCAS Director Mike Shumate.  “We’re grateful to Banfield Foundation for helping us fulfil our mission of providing quality care for the animals in our shelter – when they need it most.”

Grant money will be used for the following:

  • Two portable monitors for observing animal heart rate/oxygen levels after surgery
  • A tonometer to determine eye pressure

Since 2015, Banfield Foundation has been making preventive care possible for the pets that need it most. Through grants and partnerships, the foundation provides medical supplies and resources to nonprofit partners in need; supports pets, people and communities in crisis; and enables veterinary professionals to deliver compassionate and inclusive preventive veterinary care in underserved and diverse areas across the U.S. and around the world.

PCAS’ medical team is made up of the veterinary services supervisor, two veterinarians and six veterinary technicians.  In 2022, the team helped care for approximately 6,700 dogs and cats in our shelter.

Pasco County Animal Services is dedicated to promoting and protecting the health, safety and welfare of animals and people. For more information, including a full list of programs and services, please visit our website at: MyPasco.net/PAS.
