Pasco County Utilities brings home the win among seven counties

Who has the best tasting drinking water in west central Florida?  Pasco County Utilities!  The Florida Section of the American Water Works Association presented the 2018 Region IV “Best Tasting Drinking Water Award” to Pasco’s Lake Jovita Water System.

Gerald Runge (far right) and James Sainsbury accept the 2018 Region IV Best Tasting Water Award on behalf of Pasco County Utilities.

“This is a sweet victory,” said Operations Manager Gerald Runge.  “The Pasco County Utilities Operations & Management team works very hard to provide great tasting water throughout Pasco County.”

A panel of local, public figures and flavor-profile analyzers judges the water based on taste, odor, color and clarity.  Utility companies submit room temperature water samples for judges to taste-test.  Of the 12 regions statewide, Region IV consists of seven counties: Pasco, Citrus, Hernando, Polk, Hillsborough, Pinellas and Sumter.

Pasco County Utilities is honored to win this award for the third time, also bringing home the trophy in 2004 and 2006 for the Autumn Oaks Water System.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) hosted this year’s ceremony, which boasted top competitors including past winners the City of Wildwood, Citrus County, and Hernando County.  Pasco County is looking forward to hosting the regional competition in 2019.
