‘Petco Love’ Chooses Pasco Animal Services for $35K Grant

Pasco County’s lost pet population will benefit from a $35,000 grant Petco Love just awarded to Pasco County Animal Services (PCAS).

PCAS will use the money to hire a Pet Reunification Specialist to help find the owners of animals brought into the shelter as strays.

Efforts of this new position include:

  • Microchip Scanning
  • Provide Pet Owners Tools to Find Lost Pets
  • Pet License & Microchip Registration
  • Social Media/Website Posting

“Last year, we took in nearly 3,300 stray dogs and cats, but only 573 were returned to their homes,” says PCAS Director Mike Shumate.  “We want to get stray pets back to their owners as quickly as possible.  This generous grant from Petco Love will provide more resources to make that happen. We encourage pet owners to microchip and license their pets to help us get them home as soon as possible.”

Petco Love is a national nonprofit organization that promotes the strong bond between people and their pets – through love.  The group has awarded over $300 million since 1999 to help with adoption and other lifesaving efforts.  To learn more about Petco Love, visit: petcolove.org

The Pasco County Animal Services Department is dedicated to promoting and protecting the health, safety and welfare of animals and people.  Since 2019, PCAS has saved more than 90% of the animals entering our shelter through adoption; transfers to rescue groups; returning pets to their owners; and trap, neuter, vaccinate and return (TNVR) efforts for community cats.
