By Meaghan Goepferich Posted on January 20, 2024

The City of Crystal River previously released notification of an upcoming workshop planned
for the new form-based code.

Rescheduled: form-based code workshop

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the workshop, previously planned for January 4, 2024 has been rescheduled for February 1, 2024.

The City Planning Commission will host a public workshop to review the new form-based code for the city. A presentation will be made by Stringfellow Planning & Design, serving as the city’s planning consultant, to highlight the various design standards of the proposed form-based code. The workshop will begin at 5:30 p.m. to be held at The Welcome Center, 915 N Suncoast Boulevard, Crystal River.

In June 2023, the City of Crystal River embarked on a transformative partnership with esteemed urban
planning firm, Stringfellow Planning & Design. Together, they set out on a visionary project to shape the city’s future through the development of a Form-Based Code that harmonizes with Crystal River’s Civic Master Plan.

This workshop will review the proposed code. This will only affect properties within the city limits. The goal is to ensure that development in the city is well-designed and responsive to the needs and goals of the community. The code will provide clear guidelines and standards for developers, property owners, and city officials, with the desire to create a vibrant and livable community that is attractive to residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

In 2023, the City Manager established a Steering Committee made up of city residents and stakeholders to advise the city’s planning consultant on what design standards should be included in the code. The code will serve to implement the Crystal River Civic Master, adopted in 2022, which lays out the community’s vision for future development.

The final adoption of the code will take place at future advertised public hearings before the Planning
Commission and City Council. For additional information, please contact the Crystal River Growth
Management Department at 352-212-8226.
