Speakers named for 6th Annual Coping with Dementia Family Caregiver Conference

Coping with Dementia President Debbie Selsavage has announced the speakers that will appear at the 6th Annual Coping with Dementia Family Caregiver Conference that will take place from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 6 Roosevelt Blvd. in Beverly Hills, Florida on Wednesday, January 22nd.

The Conference will begin with a personal account about living with dementia by Daniel Jamieson, a former New York firefighter diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease who has taken steps to remain an active and productive person for the benefit of others and the assisted living facility in which he lives.

Sarah Elyaman, owner of Absolute Law, will discuss legal planning for families living with dementia, followed by Dr. Parmanand Gurnani who will discuss the benefits and disadvantages of medications frequently prescribed for dementia.

Following Dr. Gurnani, a light lunch will be provided by Vitas Healthcare, during which attendees can enjoy the music of Paula’s Pure Vintage, featuring Earl Mills, a singer and guitarist who has been living with dementia for more than five years.

Following lunch, Susan Straley, author of “Alzheimer’s Trippin’ with George” and “The Journey Continues,” will talk about the benefits of encouraging loved ones with dementia to focus on their abilities to continue an active and fulfilling life.

Pastor Curt Seefeldt, Director of Church Relations for the Lutheran Home Association, will speak from his book, “It’s Alzheimer’s – It’s Time for Extraordinary Love.”

Kathleen Winters, Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Family Organization, will describe the resources her association can provide to caregivers in west-central Florida.

In addition to speakers, the Conference will include information tables of more than two-dozen organizations that can provide support and resources in Citrus and surrounding counties.

The Conference will end with a panel of speakers and resource providers who will answer questions from the audience.
