The City of Brooksville’s Art Gallery Coordinator, Pedram Moghaddam, announces a “Call to Artists’ for the upcoming “Synesthesia” exhibit.

Uptown Art Gallery Announces Call to Artists

Mr. Moghaddam invites artists to submit 3-5 pieces of artwork created as you listen to music. In reality, synesthesia is a fairly rare neurologic phenomenon in which the brain processes data in several senses at once—one sense activates another unrelated sense, and they are experienced simultaneously. About four percent of the population have synesthesia. There are several types of synesthesia, so narrow it down to audio and visual impulses and the possibilities reflected in visual art and performance art.  Can a piece of music influence the artist’s work? In this series of submissions, the only requirement is that music be part of the process.

Pedram further urges artists to, “Just make sound an element in the process. For example, this music may be happy, sad, and/or with or without vocals. The selected piece/pieces of music should have an influence on the final product. You may be a Plein Air painter and integrating music can help set a mood along with your stylistic elements and/or preferred techniques.  All work should be named after the inspiration.”

All mediums are welcome. All artwork should be gallery-ready to hang, with a wire securely attached to the back or bottom of the art; display cases are available to secure smaller items.  Artist cards should be attached to each piece with the name of the piece, name of the artist, medium used, price or NSF if not for sale, and QR codes, if applicable.  Each piece is required to have a description label attached to a non-visible side of the work; this assists in tracking all pieces. Student work is also welcome.  All display cards must use the Avery Template 8873 – Linen Textured, 2” x 3 ½”, Myriad Pro font no larger than 16 point.  You may have more than one display card per piece if your work requires further descriptions.

The artwork must be submitted during the week Monday, June 6, 2022, through Friday, June 10, 2022, from 10:30am – 2:00 pm daily.  The “Synesthesia” exhibit will run June 24, 2022, through August 19, 2022, and the kick-off reception will be held Friday, June 24, 2022, from 5:30 to7:30 pm, music and refreshments will be provided.
