Clearing Project Recovers Runway Length at Crystal River Airport

By Meaghan Goepferich Posted on July 5, 2021

A joint project between Citrus County’s Engineering Division and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has enabled the Crystal River Airport to recover almost 600 feet of runway length by clearing approximately 9 acres of land. This length was shortened over time due to tree growth south of Venable Street in Crystal River.

The project was paid for in part with an 80/20 matching grant through FDOT, which funded the required wetland mitigation credits necessary as part of the environmental permit. The tree clearing itself was funded by the County at a cost of $38,000.
