The Emmy Award-winning documentary “The Fellowship of the Springs,” will be shown on an outdoor screen on Friday, April 8th at 8PM at the Plantation Inn on Crystal River.

“The Fellowship of the Springs,” directed and produced by filmmaker Oscar Corral, tells the story of the struggle to preserve the state’s springs. A journalist and native Floridian, Corral spent two years in courtrooms, the halls of the state legislature, and in agency meetings following battles for the health and protection of Florida’s springs. The film is being brought to Crystal River in conjunction with the Florida Springs Council’s 2022 Springs Summit, which is a three-day gathering focused on the movement to protect and restore Florida’s ailing springs (floridaspringscouncil.org)

Florida is home to the world’s largest and largest concentration of natural springs. But their future is at risk as the state’s population continues to grow, resulting in rapid growth, increased agriculture, bottling of water, and phosphate mining – all of which deplete the springs. are the culprits of the forces that do.

“I set out to make a film about the beauty and wonder that defines springs. But along the way, I learn that they are in a fight for survival,” said Coral. “It’s a story of community and struggle, and the fight to strike a balance between the needs of corporations and the needs of nature to keep the springs alive.”
